• SIGNATURES: The par-3 17th hole, on the East, where a false-fronted green and overhanging tree complicate its 217 yards; on the West, the short-but-clever par-4 5th, with its testing dogleg, and the heroic 228-yard par-3 3rd.
• GETTING THERE: Vietnam G&CC is the closest course to central Saigon, some 20 km (or 30 minutes) from downtown.
• LONE TREES: The West Course was designed by Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih, who unobtrusively accented several doglegs with lone trees in the middle of fairways.
• MEXICAN FUSION: The East Course was laid out by Lee Trevino and opened in 1997. It is the six-time major champion’s only Asian design.
• TOUR TESTED: VGCC played host to the 1995 and 1997 Vietnam Opens, the first two Asian PGA Tour events ever held in Vietnam.
• GOOD COUNSEL: Befitting a well established club, Vietnam G&CC's caddies are among the most knowledgeable in Asia. Take their advice, especially on the greens. |
